Plain white rice.
Getting plain done right is a challenge, but we should shoot higher. Add almonds, parsley, mint or peas to fresh white. Try nuttier stuff - brown, black and red - in addition to white and the beloved yellow. Learn to cook them, and they will add bargain crunch, bulk and flavor to the plate.
