Neighborhood notebook: New city team devoted to making Tampa cleaner

TAMPA - In January, Mayor Pam Iorio challenged the city staff to develop a program that would make Tampa a cleaner city. They responded by establishing the Clean City Division, a team of employees dedicated to raising public awareness and starting maintenance programs.
The Clean City Division was designed to reduce litter and illegal dumping, educate residents and businesses, add trash containers throughout the city, enhance city rights of way, , remove illegal signs, maintain city-owned lots and address graffiti.
The division will consist of about 70 staff members, including 57 employees from the Neighborhood Environmental Action Team, 11 employees from the Parks and Recreation Department and two employees funded through the Solid Waste Department.
Crews started on Monday and will spend the next four weeks getting the program going.
CapTrust attaches name to office building
DOWNTOWN - CapTrust Financial Advisors recently added its name to the Tampa skyline after obtaining the right to name the office building at 102 W Whiting St.
CapTrust, a locally owned and operated consulting practice, occupies the fourth floor of the building. The name was unveiled on the north and south sides of the riverfront building June 24.
The Tampa office of CapTrust was opened in 1998 by Tampa natives Roger Robson and Eric Bailey, and Samuel "Bo" Perry of Fort Myers. The group initially leased 1,200 square feet on the sixth floor and had two employees. CapTrust is now the largest tenant in the building, occupying the entire 10,000-square-foot fourth floor and employing 26.
Tampa, nonprofits unite to build affordable houses
TAMPA - The city of Tampa has partnered with seven local nonprofit agencies to build more than 50 affordable housing units on city-owned vacant lots, mostly in East Tampa.
The cost of the houses will average $150,000 - about $23,000 less than the median housing price in the Tampa Bay area.
Qualified individuals and families will be eligible to purchase the three- and four-bedroom homes.
They also may be eligible for $25,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance from the State Housing Initiatives Partnership.

High Point kicks off Legacy Park project
TAMPA - High Point Development kicked off its latest real estate development project, Legacy Park, during an unveiling event Monday at RattleFish Raw Bar & Grill.
Legacy Park, near West Shore and Gandy boulevards, will be a gated community with a pool, community center, koi pond and other amenities.
The development team for the project includes rojo Architecture, LCG Contractors, Burcaw & Associates, and Rick Wolfe & Associates Inc.
High Point is building more than 500 homes in the Tampa Bay area with a focus on in-fill development.

Cactus, succulent society to meet on Wednesday
