Former Plant quarterback Stephen Reaves, who was granted his release from Michigan State in May, will transfer to Southern Mississippi, his father said Thursday.
"They were the ones that came up to the plate with a ready and able scholarship," John Reaves said. "The rest of them have four or five quarterbacks and are a little lean."
Stephen Reaves also considered Alabama, Florida, Maryland and West Virginia. He started two games last fall for the Spartans. Per NCAA rules, he will sit out this year and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"He's excited about being in the south again," his father said. "Southern Miss always plays ACC and SEC teams in addition to its Conference USA schedule."
