Seminole, Gator trio named to U.S. team

Florida State outfielder Shane Robinson, a sophomore from Jesuit who was Collegiate Baseball 's player of the year and a consensus All-American, was named to the 22-man roster for the U.S. national team Friday.
"I don't even know what to say," he said. "There were so many good players at the national team trials, and the coaches couldn't have made a wrong choice picking anyone. I just feel honored."
Florida, the national runnerup, is represented by infielders Matt LaPorta and Adam Davis and catcher Brian Jeroloman. Miami right-handed pitcher Chris Perez and outfielder John Jay also earned spots from among the 39 players invited to the four-day tryout in Durham, N.C.
The team heads to Japan for the USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series, plays a five-game series in Taiwan then is home against Italy and Nicaragua.
BROOKS WALLACE AWARD: Nebraska third baseman Alex Gordon capped a sweep of the major player of the year awards. The junior also won the Golden Spikes and Dick Howser awards.
MIAMI: Guard Jack McClinton said he will transfer from Sienna. As a freshman last season, he averaged 13.6 points and five rebounds in 30 games (23 starts).SYRACUSE: Point guard Emmanuel Mayben, a top recruit, did not qualify academically. He has not decided if he will retake the SAT or attend a prep school.USF: Associate women's coach Harry Elifson said he withdrew his name from consideration for the head women's job at Saint Leo. He interviewed last week.
COLORADO: A federal judge ordered the school to turn over documents it is accused of withholding from two women who allege they were raped by players or recruits. A lawsuit was dismissed in March, but the women asked for a reconsideration. Among the documents is an investigation of a November 2001 incident between a female student trainer and players or recruits at a hotel and university police report about a sexual assault in December 2001.
