CLEARWATER - Police are investigating the death of a man found floating in the Intracoastal Waterway on Saturday morning.

Clearwater police received a call at 7:26 a.m. after a boater spotted the body about a mile north of the Memorial Causeway Bridge, police said.

Officers had not been able to identify the man by Saturday afternoon, and asked for the public's help.

The man was described as a white male in his late 40s or early 50s, about 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds. He had sandy brown, wavy hair, a moustache and brown eyes.

He was wearing blue jeans, a camouflage shirt and black boots. He had a heart-shaped tattoo on his right biceps with a name in the middle; police could not decipher the name.

Officials said they were classifying the death as suspicious because they did not know what happened to the man. They did not reveal whether his body showed signs of trauma.

Anyone with information is asked to call Clearwater police at (727) 562-4242.
