Retired greyhounds ready for adoption

The Bay Area Greyhound Adoptions, a volunteer organization that finds adoptive homes for retired racing greyhounds, will be showing greyhounds at the Clearwater PetsMart at Clearwater Mall, 2625 Gulf-to-Bay, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the second and fourth Saturday of each month.

Help can be as simple as a visit or trip to the store

Directions for Mental Health is looking for volunteers to help elderly adults in mid to upper Pinellas County. Volunteers will visit seniors, run errands and help with trips to the grocery store. Call Dolores Brigati at 524-4464, ext. 1354.

Dunedin flotilla has classes on boat safety

The Dunedin flotilla is presenting boat safety and seamanship programs. Classes run through November. Most insurance companies will give a discount on boat insurance after presenting a certificate of completion. Call 772-0021.

Back-to-school program seeks supply donations

School supplies are needed for the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast's Brighter Season's for Children Program. The goal is to provide children ages 4 to 18 with backpacks and supplies to start the school year on a positive note. Supplies and monetary donations are gratefully accepted. Drop off donations by July 15 at the organization's Clearwater office, 1214 Cleveland St. Call 542-9891.

Youth swim team practicing through July

Clearwater Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a swim team for ages 15 and younger. Practices will be in two-week sessions Monday to Thursday through July 29 from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at Clearwater Beach Family Aquatic Center, 51 Bay Esplanade, 462-6020; Long Center, 1501 N Belcher Road, 793-2320; Morningside Recreation Complex, 2400 Harn Blvd., 507-4064; North Greenwood Recreation Complex, 900 N M.L. King Jr. Ave., 462-6276; and Ross Norton Recreation Complex, 1426 S M.L. King Jr. Ave., 462-6130.

Cost is $20 with Clearwater recreation card and $30 without. Swim meets are the second Thursday of each session. Call 562-4800.

You can shape up with water fitness

Clearwater Parks and Recreation present aquacise through October. This instructor-led water fitness class emphasizes increasing endurance. Classes are at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Clearwater Beach Family Aquatic Center, 51 Bay Esplanade, Clearwater.

Cost is $3 with Clearwater recreation card and $3.75 without. Call 462-6020.

Audio book library seeking volunteers

The Talking Book Library seeks volunteers to help shelve books on tape. The library is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call Marilyn Stevenson at 441-9958.
