Tim Brown will end his prolific NFL career with the Oakland Raiders after all.
"Tim will sign a one-day contract and retire as a Raider," team spokesman Mike Taylor said Wednesday.
The Raiders plan to hold a news conference later this month with owner Al Davis to recognize Brown, the former Heisman Trophy winner and longest-tenured player in franchise history.
Brown had 24 catches for 200 yards last season with the Bucs.
BILLS: Buffalo signed fourth-round draft pick Duke Preston and waived Kansas State kicker JoeRheem.
PACKERS: The team signed linebacker Kurt Campbell, its seventh-round selection in the April draft. ... Nose tackle Grady Jackson could hold out or seek a trade if the Packers don't improve his contract, Drew Rosenhaus, his agent, said.
BASKETBALL: McMillan leaving Seattle
Nate McMillan is leaving Seattle to coach Portland. The Blazers late Wednesday night hired McMillan, who led the SuperSonics to the Northwest Division title this past season. He will be introduced today at a news conference, the Blazers said in a statement.
McMillan's contract with the Sonics expired Thursday and the Blazers aggressively pursued him. The terms of his contract were not immediately available.
HORNETS: New Orleans signed first-round draft pick Chris Paul to a three-year contract.
JAZZ: Scott Layden, the former president of the Knicks and an assistant coach and administrator with Utah, is coming back to the Jazz as an assistant on coach Jerry Sloan's staff.
KINGS: Francisco Garcia agreed to a contract with Sacramento, who chose him with the 23rd overall pick in last month's draft.
LAKERS: First-round draft pick Andrew Bynum signed.
PISTONS: After Larry Brown's agent and Detroit talked about his future again, the Hall of Fame coach insisted nothing had changed from his perspective.
"I just want to get well and coach the Pistons," Brown said Wednesday night in an interview with the Associated Press. "I've been saying that for a long time, but nobody seems to believe me. I don't know what else I can say."
WNBA: Penny Taylor had a team-high 17 points and Maria Stepanova added 10 rebounds for host Phoenix in a 73-61 win over Seattle.
TENNIS: Davenport out of Fed Cup
Top-ranked Lindsay Davenport withdrew from the U.S. team for this weekend's semifinal against Russia with a back injury that occurred during her loss to Venus Williams in the Wimbledon women's championship match.
Jill Craybas, ranked 60th in the world, will replace Davenport and make her second Fed Cup appearance, the U.S. Tennis Association said. Other members of the American squad in the top team event in women's tennis are Williams, Mashona Washington and Corina Morariu.
DAVIS CUP: Australian Open champion Marat Safin, bothered by a knee injury, wasn't included in Russia's tennis squad to face France this month. Russian captain Shamil Tarpischev chose Nikolay Davydenko, Mikhail Youzhny, Igor Andreev and Tiemuraz Gabashvili for the quarterfinal on clay, July 15-17 in Moscow.
