Denver man tops in hot dog-eating contest

ST. PETERSBURG - The winner in the July Fourth hot dog-eating contest at Dairy Inn was Benjamin Keller, who was in town from Denver. He downed 13 3/4 hot dogs in 10 minutes, beating almost 40 others.

Second place went to Nathan Perryman for 13 hot dogs, and third place went to Jon Lucas for 121/2 hot dogs. Nora Chin won honorable mention with nine hot dogs.

Prizes included $100 cash, the winner's name engraved on a championship belt and three hot dogs a week for a year.

Dairy Inn is at 1201 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N. Owner Brian Hummer said about 100 people were on hand to cheer for the hot dog eaters.
