It's time to say no to bikini bar here

Letters to the Editor

Time to Take Back Our Town. Wasn't that what they used to say in the Old West when someone rode into town and tried to stir up trouble? The townspeople would all band together and ride the undesirable scoundrel right out of their town on a rail.

Well, something makes me think we may all want to do that real soon in Brandon.

It came to my attention recently that someone wants to open a bikini bar or something of that sort right on State Road 60 in Valrico, across from the Home Depot.

Now, I don't usually get all riled up about stuff like this, but then I started checking on what was in the works. I started speaking to some concerned citizens of Brandon and Valrico and realized we all had the same thing in common. We don't want that in our neighborhood.

Most of us settled in the Brandon area to raise our families. Our children go to local schools and attend sporting practices and dance classes right in their neighborhoods. It's a great place to raise children, and we have some very good schools, I might add.

We are a proud community of good folk. When I heard about this bikini bar business I wondered why anyone would want to come into our town and try to establish it here. I thought about it for a few minutes then realized that it all comes down to the almighty dollar. Well, I have news for him, he will be very surprised when he doesn't even get this place opened, because I see a public uprising in the works.

We won't stand for it!

If you have the same thoughts I have about this, let your local community leaders know! I think that Ronda Storms would side with the guys in the white hats on this one. But, she may need some backup from all of us townspeople. I heard that last year, when Ms. Storms tried to create a public nudity ordinance not one commissioner seconded her motion. It's time for us to stand up and be counted and take back our town.

They say that the good guys always win. I am hoping that the good townspeople of Brandon and Valrico will form a posse the 2005 way to keep the undesirables out of our town. Get those e-mails going to our community leaders and let your voice be heard.
