Tampa Woman's Club to stage fashion show

BAYSHORE - The Tampa Woman's Club presents its annual summer Tea and Fashion Show from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Tampa Woman's Clubhouse, 2901 Bayshore Blvd. Volunteers will model selected fashions from the Lifepath Hospice thrift store.

A donation of $8 is requested. RSVP by Tuesday to 839-7457.

Pure Poet's Society to hold silent auction

TAMPA - Join the Pure Poet's Society in its effort to raise money for children in Ghana. The society hosts a silent auction at 7 tonight at Gaspars Grotto, 1805 E Seventh Ave. The event will feature a live reggae band, food, drink specials and items donated by several local businesses.

Members hope to personally deliver computers, books and clothes to children in two orphanages and a school in a small village. Proceeds will also benefit J.U.I.C.E. (Juveniles United In a Community Effort), a mentoring program for at-risk inner city youths. Members hope to take them to Africa next summer to give them a different perspective on the world.

TAMPA - The city of Tampa recently launched a new Web site for Spanish-speaking residents. The Web site, www.tampagov.net/en_espanol includes selected pages from the official city Web site www.tampagov.net

Developed by the Neighborhood Liaison and Information Technology Department, the Spanish pages provide information about city departments, services and public safety information.

Humane Society raising awareness about cats

TAMPA - The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is raising awareness about shelter cats this month by showcasing its adoptable felines. Visit a Humane Society shelter at 3607 N Armenia Ave. or 1623 W Snow Circle through July 31 to adopt any cat for a reduced fee of $50. Cost includes spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, vaccinations and 30 days of pet insurance.

Nola Cafe helping raise money for playground

HYDE PARK NORTH - The Nola Cafe, 301 W Platt St., is helping raise money for the Freedom Playground, a West Tampa playground accessible to children with disabilities. For every order of beignets purchased through July 31, the cafe will donate 50 cents to the Freedom Playground Organization.
