TAMPA - Authorities were trying to figure out how an 83-year-old man slipped off his dock and drowned in a lake Thursday.

Albert Ayers of Egypt Lake Drive went out on the dock behind his home at about noon, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Family members told deputies they heard a noise, went to check on him and called 911, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies helped pull Ayers from Egypt Lake. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
