TAMPA - Several hundred Tampa residents were in the dark Thursday night after summer thunderstorms rolled through the area and knocked out the power.

Davis Islands lost power sometime around 9 p.m., said Tampa Electric spokesman Ross Bannister. The storms might have knocked out a few other circuits, he said. "It's your typical summer thunderstorm activity," he said.

Power crews were deployed immediately to repair circuits and restore power to customers, he said. Bannister expected power to be restored before the customers woke up this morning.
