LOS ANGELES - Kwame Brown is headed to the Lakers, his agent said Thursday.
Arn Tellem confirmed a published report that Brown, the first overall selection in the 2001 NBA draft, will be involved in a trade between the Lakers and Wizards.
"It's Kwame's intention to sign a contract with the Wizards on the first day possible and be traded to the Lakers," Tellem said. "All parties are in agreement. This is the intention we're going to execute upon the first day possible."
Tellem wouldn't comment further, but it's believed the 6-foot-11 Brown will join the Lakers in exchange for swingman Caron Butler and former USF guard Chucky Atkins.
CLIPPERS: Cuttino Mobley has agreed to play for Los Angeles next season. Andy Miller, his agent, wouldn't divulge terms, but it's believed the parties agreed to a five-year deal worth around $42-million.
HEAT: Forward Dorell Wright could miss the remainder of the team's summer-league season because of a mouth injury. Wright lost two teeth when he was elbowed by former Florida State player Von Wafer during the Heat's game in Long Beach, Calif., against the Lakers' summer-league team. He was ruled out of Miami's game Thursday and is listed as questionable for the remainder of the league schedule. After Thursday, the Heat is scheduled to play three more games in the Long Beach Summer Pro League. The 19-year-old Wright was Miami's first-round pick in the 2004 draft.
KNICKS: Jerome James agreed to a five-year deal, his agent, Marc Fleisher, told the New York Times. Terms will not be set until the league completes its new labor deal. But it was expected that James will earn about $5-million in the first year of the contract, and $29-million over five years.
LAKERS: Restricted free-agent forward Luke Walton will return to Los Angeles next season. Walton's agent, Lon Babby, said Walton "is committed to return, and they're committed to him." NBA teams aren't allowed to make contract announcements until a moratorium ends July 22. "It will be a two-year deal," Babby said. "He's excited about remaining in L.A. That's his home base. He's had a great experience there. He's excited about playing for Phil Jackson again, he had a lot of success playing for Phil in his rookie year." Jackson was rehired last month to coach the Lakers after taking last season off.
TRAIL BLAZERS: Jarrett Jack, the 22nd overall pick in the draft, signed a multiyear contract. The Blazers also exercised their option on the fourth year of Travis Outlaw's contract, extending it through the 2006-07 season.
WNBA: Ticha Penicheiro scored 13 and DeMya Walker added 11, and host Sacramento held on for a ragged 72-61 win over San Antonio. The rusty Monarchs showed that this was their first game in 11 days - and it tipped off at 11:30 a.m. local time, a rare morning game each team plays once a season.
