New diet, 9-pound loss and a saucy future in the works

After some ups and downs, Cindy Glennon is back on track and feeling positive about the months that still remain.

ST. PETERSBURG - In the month since Cindy Glennon adjusted her weight loss goal, she has begun a new diet, lost another nine pounds and started making plans to launch a new hot sauce.

"The scale is down to 230 pounds," she said excitedly Friday.

That's progress for the 5-foot-4 professionally trained chef, who at the end of February weighed 259 pounds. The weight hasn't dropped off as she had visualized back then, but Glennon said she is optimistic this time around.

She has been on the South Beach Diet for the past four weeks and it has worked wonders on her night time binge eating, Glennon said.

"It has really been fine. Things have been very stressful throughout these past four weeks, and I have not turned to the cereal and the bread," she said.

"I feel great. The pounds are moving."

Glennon said she repeated the diet's two-week introduction phase that called for low fat protein and vegetables and now is ready to go on to the next step. This week she will add fruits to her meals, she said.

For Glennon, 48, the past six months have been filled with highs and lows. She decided to share her weight loss efforts with readers earlier this year, setting a goal to lose 100 pounds by December. In April, though, she gained instead of lost. In May, she was back on track. Last month, she decided to adjust her goal.

At the beginning of the year, a friend and prayer partner enlisted numerous health and fitness experts, including a dietitian, acupuncturist, chiropractor and walking coach, to help Glennon meet her goal.

But life got in the way. Her marriage collapsed and a previously uncontested divorce is beginning to turn ugly. Her 7-year-old daughter is unhappy.

During the past month, though, she has been able to overcome the distractions, Glennon said.

"Through all of this, the food has really remained good and hasn't been an issue," she said.

"One other positive thing, I've been working for a while on a hot sauce recipe and I've bottled some up and given it away," she said.

She's gotten excellent feedback and hopes to use it to launch a business to support herself and daughter, Eryn.

She and Eryn are in the sixth week of the KidShapers program at All Children's Hospital.

"Eryn and I are doing much better," she said. "I would like to lose another 30 pounds by the end of the year. I think 30 more pounds are reachable."
