Baltimore reportedly to get Burnett
By wire services
Published July 18, 2005
A trade that would send pitcher A.J. Burnett to the Orioles is almost complete, with an announcement possibly today, the Baltimore Sun reported.
Florida would send Burnett, third baseman Mike Lowell and minor-league outfielder Eric Reed to Baltimore for reliever Jorge Julio , outfielder Larry Bigbie and top pitching prospect Hayden Penn .
The Sun reported the Orioles' willingness to take Lowell might have pushed them ahead of the Red Sox, who offered pitcher Bronson Arroyo and prospects. After hitting 83 home runs with 282 RBIs from 2002-04, Lowell has slumped. In 82 games, he is hitting .227 with four home runs and 36 RBIs. In addition, he is scheduled to make a combined $18-million in 2006 and 2007.
Burnett is 5-6 with a 3.64 ERA.

"It's coming along good," Bonds said. "I'm really happy, but I don't have any time frame for coming back. That will come from the doctors. I'm just going to stay positive and hope I get back."

Also, Wilson Alvarez , out since May31 with shoulder pain, was activated, putting a left-hander in the bullpen for the first time since Kelly Wunsch 's ankle injury July8.
MARINERS: Infielder Dave Hansen was activated from the DL. Hansen, considered among the game's top pinch-hitters, had been out since July3 with an inflamed left elbow.
PADRES: Right-hander Adam Eaton , on the DL with a strained tendon in his right middle finger, received a cortisone shot and will be examined when the swelling goes down in a couple of days.
