Annexation attempt fails, for now

By Times Staff Writer
Published July 21, 2005

LARGO - An ordinance annexing a 90-acre plot in east Largo failed 3-3 during Largo's commission meeting Tuesday, after business owners criticized the proposal and said they weren't notified properly.

Owners of more than half of the 25 parcels north of Ulmerton Road and east of 49th Street N signed annexation petitions. But the other property owners oppose the annexation, and commissioners will vote on the issue again Aug. 2. The commission also voted to approve the sale of alcoholic beverages on the premises of the Largo Public Library, the Largo Feed Store, the Largo Community Center and the Largo Golf Course. The public will be able to rent the new library for special events. A final vote is Aug. 2.
