LARGO - Sixty townhomes and condos to be built in a style reminiscent of homes in the Bahamas are proposed for the three vacant acres south of Walsingham Road and east of Oakhurst Road.
A&E Investment Group of Largo has submitted to the city a preliminary site plan for the project, called Bahama Palms. It proposes six townhome buildings, condos in a four- to five-story building, a clubhouse, pool and spa.
The 23 two-story townhomes each will have 1,476 square feet. Thirty-seven condos will be above a parking structure. Thirty of the condos will be one-bedroom units with 1,023 square feet; seven penthouse units will have 1,476 square feet.
Architect Mark Stephenson of the St. Petersburg firm of Wedding, Stephenson & Ibarguen, Architects, said Wednesday that the townhomes are designed in what he called a Bahamian style. Buildings will be painted yellow, blue, salmon and seafoam green.
Jamal Block, a planner with the Largo Community Development Department, said Wednesday that developers indicated the townhomes would be priced in the high $200,000 range. The developers did not return several calls from the Times seeking comment.
Plans show access to and from the project will be from Oakhurst Road, between a CVS pharmacy and the Water's Edge community. Developers are preparing a traffic impact study, Block said.
The next step for developers, Block said, is to submit a final site plan, which then will need city reviews and approvals.
