Fleeing theft suspect hits building

By Times Staff Writer
Published July 21, 2005

CLEARWATER - A fleeing suspect jumped into his car, crashed into an apartment building and then rammed a detective's vehicle Tuesday evening before being taken into custody, authorities said Wednesday.

No one was injured in the incident. Sheriff's detectives went to the Lexington Apartments on 1200 S Missouri Ave. about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday looking for Marc Schvartz, 37, who was wanted on a grand theft charge, the Sheriff's Office said. Schvartz eluded arrest on Monday by fleeing in his car, said sheriff's Sgt. Jim Bordner. When he attempted to do the same Tuesday, Schvartz struck the apartment building and the detective's vehicle, causing an estimated $2,000 damage to both the building and the car. Schvartz, now charged with grand theft and resisting arrest, was being held in the county jail Wednesday.
