ORLANDO - The man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old British girl in a hotel elevator this week is a former middle school teacher who recently lost his teaching certificate after being accused of fondling a girl at another hotel.
Carl Moore, 36, of Kissimmee had worked at Neptune Middle School in Osceola County before losing his certificate for failing to report within 48 hours a 2002 arrest on charges of groping a 17-year-old girl at a hotel pool, according to documents from the Florida Department of Education. The revocation order was signed Feb. 5.
Moore has faced several child sex abuse allegations. In September 2002 he was arrested and accused of reaching under the shirt of a tourist younger than 12 in another hotel elevator. Though the 2002 elevator victim picked Moore out of a lineup, prosecutors were forced to dismiss the charges after she failed to show up for the deposition or trial..
In Monday's incident, Moore faces charges of attempted sexual battery, false imprisonment and lewd molestation.
Orange County deputies arrested him Tuesday at a restaurant where he works, less than a mile from the Enclave Suites, scene of the alleged assault. He was jailed without bail after a court appearance Wednesday. Moore is accused of following the girl into the hotel about 11:30 p.m. Monday, getting into an elevator with her and groping her. The girl pushed the elevator alarm and escaped when the doors opened.
Moore was arrested after sex crime detectives viewing footage from hotel surveillance cameras recognized him, sheriff's spokeswoman Crystal Candy said.
