City kicks off four-day cleanup

By Times Staff Writer
Published July 22, 2005

Mayor Pam Iorio joined code enforcement officials Wednesday to launch a four-day cleanup effort in West Tampa designed to help residents spruce up their neighborhood.

Dubbed "Operation Summer Heat," the program targets the area bound by Rome Avenue, Himes Avenue, Columbus Drive and Interstate 275.

The city dispatched workers from its Solid Waste Department to help residents make sure their property meets code requirements. Crews are also canvassing the area to remove large items, including old furniture, debris and junk. Items must be placed at the curb today for pickup on Saturday.

Other city employees are cleaning up MacFarlane Park and the main roads in the area.

People interested in joining the effort should report at 8 a.m. to the Barksdale Recreation Center at 1801 N Lincoln Ave. The city will also hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center with information about city departments.

The cleanup ends Saturday.
