Notebook: Back-to-school fair offers physicals, immunizations

TAMPA - Tampa General Hospital holds a back-to-school fair from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Healthpark ambulatory center, 5802 N 30th St. About 150 volunteers will be on hand to administer school physicals and immunizations for children entering kindergarten and seventh grade. Also, several community organizations will provide free safety, health and family-related information to attendees.

Children must be at least 5 years old by Aug. 31 to qualify. Parents or legal guardians must bring their child's record of immunizations. No appointments necessary. Call 844-3247 for information.

Saturday auction to help Big Brothers Big Sisters

DOWNTOWN - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay hosts the seventh annual Art of Helping Children auction at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 211 N Tampa St.

Enjoy food, drinks and live entertainment. A silent auction features items including sports memorabilia from the Tampa Bay Lightning and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, dining packages, golf outings, cosmetics, hotel accommodations and electronics. A live auction, beginning at 8 p.m., showcases artwork from local artists as well as renowned masters such as Chagall, Dali, Miro and Picasso.

MacDill wing wins top honors in competition

MACDILL - MacDill Air Force Base's 6th Air Mobility Wing took part in the Air Mobility Command Rodeo on June 24 at McChord Air Force Base in Washington state. MacDill's team swept the competition, winning "Best Air Mobility Wing - Best of the Best," "Best Cargo Load Team," "Best KC-135 Wing" and "Best KC-135 with crew."

The rodeo is a weeklong biennial competition showcasing airdrops, air refueling and special tactics. This year's rodeo included teams from the Air Force and a Marine unit and comprised six countries.

Margarita Ball and auction to benefit two charities

WEST SHORE - Join the Krewe of Pandora for dinner, dancing and a silent auction at the fifth annual Margarita Ball from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Quorum Hotel, 700 N Westshore Blvd. Jack Harris of WFLA-Ch. 8 and Leigh Moody of Bay News 9 will emcee the event.

Tickets are $60. Proceeds benefit the Spring of Tampa Bay and the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. For information, call 503-2054.
