Condition of impaled girl better

By Times Staff Writer
Published July 22, 2005

A 9-year-old girl impaled on a toilet plunger after falling through an attic ceiling Wednesday night improved from critical to fair condition Thursday, hospital officials said.

Tatiana Correa had climbed a wooden ladder to the attic at her house on Somersworth Place in Town 'N Country. She stepped on an unsupported area of the floor, which gave way, about 8:45 p.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.

The plunger handle pierced Tatiana's right side and came out her back, according to the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue incident report.

She was taken to Tampa General Hospital by helicopter and was expected to fully recover, Carter said.
