Summer 1969 - Moved from Georgia to Tampa

June 10, 1976 - Signed with Red Sox after being drafted in seventh round, played first pro season in Elmira, N.Y..

Dec. 21, 1976 - Married high school sweetheart Debbie Bertuccelli

Dec. 29, 1978 - Daughter Meagan was born.

April 19, 1981 - Went 4-for-12 for Triple-A Pawtucket in 32-inning "longest" game.

April 10, 1982 - Made major-league debut, playing first base and batting ninth for the Red Sox at Baltimore.

April 26, 1982 - Got first major-league hit, an eighth-inning single off Richard Dotson in Chicago.

Oct. 2, 1983 - Won first of five AL batting titles, hitting .361 to Rod Carew's .339, and compiled the first of seven straight 200-hit seasons, the only player since 1900 century to do so.

Sept. 18, 1984 - Got 500th hit, off Luis Leal in Toronto

July 26, 1985 - Went 0-for-3 vs. Seattle to end career-high 28-game hitting streak.

Sept. 21. 1985 - Set AL season record with his 185th single.

June 17, 1986 - Mother, Sue, killed in car accident in Tampa.

Nov. 26, 1986 - Son Brett was born.

April 30, 1987 - Got 1,000th hit, off Scott Bankhead in Seattle.

July 11, 1989 - Homered off Rick Reuschel in first inning of All-Star Game.

July 21, 1989 - Got 1,500th hit, off New York's Melido Perez in Boston.

May 17, 1992 - Got 2,000th hit, off Seattle's Mark Langston in Boston.

Dec, 15, 1992 - Signed with Yankees as a free agent

Postseason 1994 - Won first of two Gold Gloves.

Aug, 23, 1995 - Got 2,500th hit, off Don Wengert in Oakland

Oct. 26. 1996 - Won first and only World Series with Yankees.

Dec. 9, 1997 - Signed with Devil Rays as a free agent.

March 31, 1998 - Hit first homer in Rays history in inaugural game.

Aug. 7, 1999 - Got 3,000 hit, a home run off Cleveland's Chris Haney in St. Petersburg

Aug. 26, 1999 - Got his 3,010th and final hit, a two-out, eighth-inning double off Chicago's Sean Lowe.

Aug. 27, 1999 - Went 0-for-3 with a walk in his last major-league game at Cleveland.

Nov. 11. 1999 - Announced his retirement as a player.

April 7, 2000 - Had his No. 12 retired by Devil Rays, spent one year as special assistant to GM Chuck LaMar.

Oct. 25, 2001 - Resigned after one season as Rays' hitting coach.

Jan. 4, 2005 - Elected to the Hall of Fame, receiving nearly 92 percent of the vote.
