Ombudsmen volunteers needed to help elderly

Consider becoming a volunteer ombudsman with Florida Elder Affair's Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.
Pinellas County is seeking volunteers from all cultural backgrounds and with fluency in multiple languages, and professional volunteers such as social workers, nurses, pharmacists, elder law attorneys, physicians and registered dietitians.
The ombudsman program provides free services to Pinellas County elderly residents of long-term care facilities such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult family care homes. They investigate complaints against any person who is in a position to threaten or interfere with the rights, health, safety or welfare of residents living in these facilities.
By law, facilities are required to cooperate and resolve problems found by ombudsmen. Mileage reimbursement is provided for traveling to and from facilities and for other official duties. For information call 588-6912 or 888-831-0404.
