Kids Fishing Derby planned Saturday in Madeira Beach

MADEIRA BEACH - Kids Fishing Derby will be held Saturday at the Recreation Center on Rex Place. The event is open to kids ages 5 to 12 who are accompanied by an adult. Participants should bring their own roads. Bait is provided. Fishing is from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by fun, food and prizes from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, call Judy Butler at 392-0665.

BELLEAIR BEACH - The city of Belleair Beach needs a new logo and is turning to the public for help. A contest is open to anyone interested in submitting a design. The city will award the winner a $500 prize. The contest ends July 31 at 11:59 p.m. Contestants must be 18 years or older. Elected officials or employees of the city and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter. BELLEAIR BEACH - The North Beaches Branch YMCA Kiddie Sports summer program for children ages 3 and 4 at the Belleair Beach City Hall park will continue through Aug. 8. The cost is $20 for each child for the four-week course, which will include group games and an introduction to a variety of sports. Indian Rocks Beach

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH - The North Beaches Branch YMCA, 500 Second St., is a drop-off site for donations for the community food pantry at Calvary Episcopal Church. Nonperishable food items can be dropped off at the YMCA branch Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as at all of its special events. The pantry also accepts donations of paper goods, toiletries, bottled water and even pet food. No fresh food of any kind can be accepted. INDIAN ROCKS BEACH - A special program of Spanish language immersion for children ages 1 to 4 is being offered at Calvary Episcopal Church, 1615 First St. The one-hour weekly Parent and Tot classes focus on a weekly age-appropriate theme reinforcing the basic building blocks of colors, numbers, shapes and a working theme vocabulary in Spanish. The teacher will sing and speak to the children in Spanish. Parent Sing- and Speak-along sheets will be provided, so the parent can participate. Classes include playtime, singing, a craft and a snack. Classes will be held every Monday and Friday at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per class or $12 for drop-ins. To register, call Amy at 479-8929.

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH - The North Beaches Branch YMCA is offering a morning Pilates class at Indian Shores Town Hall every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. A total fitness class is held on Tuesday and Thursday in Belleair Beach. Beginning yoga also is offered in Belleair Beach, and for the more advanced student of yoga there are classes at Indian Shores Town Hall. St. Pete Beach

ST. PETE BEACH - The Don CeSar Beach Resort, 3400 Gulf Blvd., will host a Mutt Mingle cocktail party Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to celebrate the premiere of Must Love Dogs, starring Diane Lane and John Cusack, in theaters Friday. The party will feature light fare, cocktails, pet massage demonstrations and a chance to meet other area dog lovers. PETE BEACH - The Tampa Bay Beach Boppers will host Beach Boogie 2005, Aug. 18 to 21, at the Sirata Beach Resort, 5300 Gulf Blvd. The event will include dance workshops, Friday sunset party, hospitalities Friday and Saturday, dancing on Sunday and a smoke-free ballroom. Sand Key

SAND KEY - The Pinellas County Parks and Recreation Department will host a Sea Turtle Interpretive Program on Fridays, Aug. 12 and 26 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Sand Key Park, 1060 Gulf Blvd. Participants will learn about sea turtles and their nesting habits. The classes will include a guided beach hike, information on steps to be followed when a turtle nest is discovered and why lights on the beach may be hazardous to baby sea turtles. The program also includes a walk to the shore to see bird nesting areas and sea turtle nests. A question-and-answer session will follow each presentation. For information, call 464-3347.

Treasure Island
