One dead after nightclub shooting

A 17-year-old Boca Ciega High student was shot in the parking lot of Club Karma in St. Petersburg early Thursday morning.

Published July 28, 2005

A 17-year-old Boca Ciega High School student was shot and killed early today outside Club Karma, 1833 First Ave. S, in St. Petersburg. When police arrived about 1:30 a.m. they found Jermairio E. Nesbitt in the driver's seat of a silver Mazda across the street from the club. Nesbitt suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene.

A large crowd was gathered in the parking lot at the time of the shooting. Witnesses said Nesbitt was involved in an argument with occupants of another car in Club Karma's parking lot. Someone from the other car approached Nesbitt's car and fired several shots through Nesbitt's window, causing his car to move backwards and roll across the street.

The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle.

Police have not released any details about the suspect or the vehicle involved.

Nesbitt was entering his senior year at Boca Ciega High School and planned to play football, his mother said. His older brother Lequerio was a standout running back and now plays college ball in Illinois.
