Not all Aloha customers have water problems
Letters to the Editor
Published July 29, 2005
I've lived in the same house for 22 years. Not once have I had problems with smelly water or black water from Aloha Utilities. I don't even own a water softener.
I've talked to a lot of my neighbors and friends. They've never had any problems either.
Why is it that some areas, mostly the Trinity area, have problems where other areas don't? Doesn't the water come from the same source?
As for people thinking that all of Aloha's customers are receiving bad water: Wake up. Not all of us have problems with Aloha's water.
I think more people with good Aloha water should make a stand. Make your voices heard!!

Editor's note: Aloha Utilities has multiple wells to serve its customers.
We must take our streets back from panhandlers
Editor: As I drove down U.S. 19, I saw two people carrying a sign asking for money. I really think this is bad for Pasco County. The commission should look into stopping it before it gets way out of hand and we see everybody out there carrying a sign.
We need to take our streets back at once and stop these people from looking for a handout. There are a lot of people out there working their tails off, and they're not out there carrying a sign asking someone to give them money. Some of the people they ask need the money just as bad as they do. Let these people try to work for their money and not beg for it.
This really looks bad when our visitors come down U.S. 19 and see those signs and the people carrying them. It is a real nuisance to see every day out there.

Aloha's water is decent, but greed is unacceptable
I have lived in Aloha Gardens or Tahitian Gardens since 1971 when my mom built her house. I lived in Port Richey for six years but then moved back into Tahitian Gardens and purchased a house. While the Aloha Utilities water isn't as bad as it is in Trinity, I do sympathize with them.
When we first lived here, the water was better than any other. The water here is usable, but it is so full of lime and chemicals, it clogs my coffeemaker in less than a week.
The issue I have with Aloha Utilities is the price of water. When I speak with friends who live elsewhere, their water may cost $30 a month and they pay for garbage pickup for a three-month period. My bill runs $70 to $80 a month. I am paying for the fight in Trinity, too!
Let me tell you how greedy Aloha is . . . . My mom built this house in 1971. She lived here until she died in 1997. I lived in Tahitian Gardens since 1986. I paid my bills and had a deposit on my utility for 10 years, until they reimbursed me. I lived three blocks away from my mom. When she died, I moved into her house. I never turned her water off; the attorney just turned everything into my name. When I contacted Aloha Utilities to say I was moving three blocks and wanted to put the bill in my name, they told me that I had to shut the water off, then have it turned back on in my name for $250.
Since I was an existing customer, I said to just change the bill over. They refused. I told them Florida Power just reverted the bills over with no interruption of service. All I had to do was send them a copy of her death certificate. Aloha still refused. Eight years later, the water is still in my mom's name, because I refuse to pay a shutoff fee and a turn-on fee.
I think Aloha needs to be dissolved and the water put into the county's hands. We don't make great wages in Florida, and we are paying too much for utilities!
