Taylor to run Bank of America's investment, commercial banking units

By ROBERT TRIGAUX
Published August 1, 2005

What is it about Choctawhatchee High School on the Florida Panhandle and banking? Self-described good ol' boy and long-ago Choctawhatchee graduate Gene Taylor is ascending, again, in the executive world of Bank of America. The banking giant last week said Taylor, now 57 and the bank's commercial-banking chief in Charlotte, N.C., will run BofA's newly combined investment and commercial banking arms, which includes Banc of America Securities.

Taylor ran Bank of America's Florida operations from Tampa in the early 1990s, back when the bank was called NationsBank. His folksy approach has dimmed over the years, replaced by a more no-nonsense management style that has apparently served him well. Last year, Taylor earned more than $3.5-million, plus millions more in stock awards, and a few thousand more to cover the cost of his home security system and "secured" parking - all required by company policy. Chalk one up to Choctawhatchee.
