Young triathletes to compete

SEMINOLE - The Seminole Recreation Landsharks Triathlon Team, ages 12 to 14, will compete Saturday in the Florida Regional Youth Championship Tri-Fever Triathlon in Pasco County.

The eight young athletes have been running, swimming and biking with coaches Jim Sheets, the recreation director, and Jerry Span, aquatics coordinator, since the Seminole "Tri If You Dare" Kids Triathlon in preparation for the regional championship.

The Osceola High School Class of 1994 Reunion will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Jimmy Guana's and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Cha Cha Coconuts. Alumni can get together and catch up. For more information, call David Jorden at 540 760-8967 or e-mail osceola_1994@yahoo.com

The Seminole Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor a free seminar, "Smart Women Finish Rich," at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at the chamber office, 8400 113th St. N.

The seminar, based on the bestselling book by David Bach, is offered by Edward Jones Investments and will be presented by Paul Peterson. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Barbara at 392-6911.

The chamber is seeking sponsors and players for its four-person scramble golf tournament Oct. 20 at the Seminole Lake Country Club. The entry fee is $100 per person, which covers greens fee, cart, dinner and a chance for prizes. For more information, call 392-3245.

The event will celebrate adoptions, encourage foster care, support infants in shelter care and recognize special babies at All Children's Hospital.

Lake Seminole Square will host its quarterly Better Living for Seniors Consortium, for professionals in the field of senior care, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 12. "Public Relations Is Everyone's Business" will be addressed by speakers Kathy Beck of Senior Connection and Nancy Paradis of the St. Petersburg Times. Breakfast is compliments of Innovative Senior Care. Business representatives are encouraged to bring door prizes. A $5 donation will benefit Meals on Wheels. The Seminole Family Aquatic Center, 9100 113th St. N, is offering water aerobics at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $3 a class. For those interested in swimming a few laps for exercise or taking a dip on a hot day, the center is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7 to 10 a.m. for laps and exercise, noon to 4 p.m. for open swim, and 5 to 8 p.m. for family swim. The center is also open Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. for open swim and 5 to 9 p.m. for family swim. Saturday hours are noon to 5 p.m. The center will host a Family Pool Party on Aug. 20. Seminole United Methodist Church, 5400 Seminole Blvd., is offering a Bible seminar, "The Bible for All Seasons," at 7 tonight and next Wednesday night. Dr. Doug Hallman will focus on scriptural teachings drawn from the four seasons. For more information, call 391-9781.

Planning for the 2006 Pow Wow Festival will get under way next month. The 39th festival is scheduled from March 9-11. The volunteer planning committee will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today in Room 210 of the Seminole Recreation Center to organize volunteers for various committees including entertainment, special events, festival parade, public relations, sponsorships, host and hospitality, and volunteer coordination. Chapel on the Hill will present a free Evans Hall Bridal Event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today. The event will showcase Pinellas County's newest banquet facility and offer shopping, browsing and tasting. Everything needed for planning a wedding will be on hand, including entertainment, fashions, photography and video. Hundreds of dollars in prizes and discounts will be awarded, with door prizes every 20 minutes. Live entertainment, food sampling and a cash bar will be available. Pinellas County Sunstar Emergency Medical Services will offer a free three-hour CPR class from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.
