Young triathletes to compete

SEMINOLE - The Seminole Recreation Landsharks Triathlon Team, ages 12 to 14, will compete Saturday in the Florida Regional Youth Championship Tri-Fever Triathlon in Pasco County.

The eight young athletes have been running, swimming and biking with coaches Jim Sheets, the recreation director, and Jerry Span, aquatics coordinator, since the Seminole "Tri If You Dare" Kids Triathlon in preparation for the regional championship.

The Seminole Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor a free seminar, "Smart Women Finish Rich," at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at the chamber office, 8400 113th St. N.

The Seminole Family Aquatic Center, 9100 113th St. N, is offering water aerobics at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $3 a class. For those interested in swimming a few laps for exercise or taking a dip on a hot day, the center is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7 to 10 a.m. for laps and exercise, noon to 4 p.m. for open swim, and 5 to 8 p.m. for family swim. The center is also open Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. for open swim and 5 to 9 p.m. for family swim. Saturday hours are noon to 5 p.m. The center will host a Family Pool Party on Aug. 20. Planning for the 2006 Pow Wow Festival will get under way next month. The 39th festival is scheduled from March 9-11. The volunteer planning committee will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today in Room 210 of the Seminole Recreation Center to organize volunteers for various committees including entertainment, special events, festival parade, public relations, sponsorships, host and hospitality, and volunteer coordination. Chapel on the Hill will present a free Evans Hall Bridal Event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today. The event will showcase Pinellas County's newest banquet facility and offer shopping, browsing and tasting.
