Man resists, hits deputies during arrest

DADE CITY - A Crystal Springs man wanted on a parole violation struck officers as they tried to arrest him in Dade City, deputies said.

Edward Garcia, 26, of 1214 Amawalk St., was arrested on a charge of battery on law enforcement and resisting arrest with violence Tuesday. According to deputies, Garcia eluded officers who told him he was under arrest on a charge of violation of parole on a felon in possession of a weapon during a chase in Dade City.

During the Tuesday incident, Garcia struck deputies at least twice while resisting arrest, and continued to fight after he was placed in handcuffs, deputies said. He was still in jail Wednesday and was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail for each charge of battery on law enforcement and resisting arrest with violence. No bail was set for the violation of parole, jail staffers said.
