$6,000 chair puts viewer in middle of the action

By DAVE GUSSOW
Published August 8, 2005

The chair has arrived. Not just any chair, mind you. The $6,000 D-Box Odyssee home theater chair.

For that money, you don't just watch a movie, you experience it, from feeling the vibration of explosions and shaking ground to G forces in car chases synchronized to the scenes on the screen.

In January, Tweeter Home Entertainment Group said it would begin selling the chairs in a handful of test markets, including Florida. Now it says the chair, made by D-BOX Technology of Canada, is on its way to 16 Sound Advice stores in Florida, including at least three in the Tampa Bay area.

And if you're not watching a movie, well, it's one comfy place to sit.
