Crane climber must sumit DNA sample
A Pinellas County judge made the ruling Monday in the case of the Clearwater man who climbed atop a crane in Atlanta before being arrested in connection with the murder of his ex-girlfriend.

Murder defendant Carl Edward Roland will have to provide a sample of his DNA, a Pinellas county judge ruled in a hearing Monday. Roland is the Clearwater man who climbed atop a crane 25 stories above traffic in Atlanta before being arrested in connection with the murder of his ex-girlfriend. Jennifer L.
Gonzalez, 36, was found floating in a retention pond near her Oldsmar apartment building in May.
Authorities found a pair of sandals at the scene that are the same type Roland is wearing in a photograph discovered by detectives. Roland's DNA will be compared to foreign DNA that was discovered under Gonzalez's fingernails and to DNA on the sandals, the state attorney's office said during Monday's hearing.
