Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones Jr. will settle their intrastate feud in Tampa at the St. Pete Times Forum on Oct. 1, both parties officially announced Tuesday at a press conference in New York.
Tarver, who knocked out Jones Jr. in Las Vegas their last meeting, lives in Tampa, while Jones is a Pensacola native.
"We've been chasing sites for this event since we started negotiations, and every time we came back to what was best for this fight," said Brad Jacobs, a senior adviser to Jones Jr. "Since it's a home state rivalry, it ought to be where the fight is."
The Times Forum hosted St. Petersburg's Jeff Lacy fight Saturday against Robin Reid and attracted 15,056 fans, far greater than expectations.
Tarver (23-3, 18 knockouts) lost his first meeting with Jones (49-3, 38 KOs) when they fought as 13-year-old amateurs. In 2003, Jones decisioned Tarver, who got his revenge six months later.
