ZEPHYRHILLS - What started as an investigation of a couple accused of neglecting their two sons turned into drug arrests, authorities say.

Kevin Dixon, 30, and wife, Heather, 20, were arrested Tuesday. They were both charged with child neglect, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pasco County sheriff's deputies and child protection investigators visited the couple's single-wide mobile home at 4540 Kimball Court about 6:18 p.m. Tuesday, according to a report.

The couple admitted possessing paraphernalia that tested positive for methamphetamine, the report said.

The report also said there was very little food in the home, unsanitary conditions, large amounts of trash in the kitchen, a full can of cigarette butts within reach of the children and exposed electrical wiring.

Deputies also recovered glass stem pipes, an electronic scale and batteries. The pipes tested positive for meth, the report said.

Kevin and Heather Dixon are being held in the county jail in lieu of $5,250 bail apiece.

The two children were placed with a relative, a sheriff's spokesman.
