Strangers offered boy a ride, authorities say

WESLEY CHAPEL - Authorities are investigating a suspicious incident that occurred at a Pasco County bus stop Tuesday afternoon: two strangers trying to give a 14-year-old boy a ride.

According to a Pasco Sheriff's Office report, the school bus let the Wesley Chapel High School freshman off at Old Pasco Road and Deedra Drive at about 3:15 p.m. The boy, whose identity is being withheld by the Times, told deputies that he was approached by a dark blue, full-size pickup truck with two men inside.

Both were white men, the boy told deputies, and he did not recognize either one. The driver was described as about 50, with a small build and dark hair with some gray. The passenger was described as an elderly man with a green shirt and a pock-marked face.

The driver asked if the boy wanted a ride. He responded no.

"Suit yourself," the driver said, and one of the men used an obscene hand gesture, the report said, while driving off west on Deedra Drive.

The boy's mother reported the incident, but deputies could not find the truck. Extra patrols were assigned to the area. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Pasco Sheriff's Office Tipsline at 1-800-706-2488.
