Food for the body and the soul

BRANDON - Nativity Outreach, a mission of Nativity Catholic Church, hosts a culinary fair Saturday with at least 15 participating restaurants and a powerhouse musical guest.

Organizers of Taste of 2005 hope history repeats itself. The line into last year's event stretched for blocks. Players this year include Red Lobster, Smokey Bones Barbecue and Grill, Joey's Famous Philly Steaks, Warsteiner and Yuengling breweries, Beef "O' Brady's Family Sports Pubs, Buca di Beppo, Tadpoles, Time for Wine, Jesse's Restaurant, Hungry Howie's Pizza and Subs, Brocato's, Trio's Pizza, Crisper's, Mimi's Cafe, Cody's Original Roadhouse Grill and O'Brien's Irish Pub.

The entry fee guarantees food samples, plus a beverage and eligibility for a host of door prizes.

Along the way, organizers will honor families of active-duty military personnel in the parish, led by the Rev. Arthur Proulx. Plus, singer Shelly Stephens, who in June revived the work of a country legend in Always ... Patsy Cline at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, will give visitors a reprise of those hits.

Stephens, 36, said she plans to sell her CD of Patsy Cline songs, Howdy Hoss, and donate CDs to the military families.

Proceeds from the event go to the Nativity Food Pantry and Food Bank.
