Pet Adoption Expo to be held Saturday

YBOR CITY - Centro Ybor hosts a Pet Adoption Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Cat Call, Cat Lovers, CARE/Ruskin and St. Francis rescue groups will have pets for adoption. All adopters will receive a gift from Centro Ybor, either game play from GameWorks or movie tickets from Muvico Centro Ybor 20.

Interior design tips offered in seminar
WESTSHORE - Get tips from the design team at Robb & Stucky Interiors during three seminars this month at the Tampa showroom at International Plaza, 2223 West Shore Blvd.
A two-part seminar on how to make the most of a child's room is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and Aug. 31. For part one, design consultant Jami Shapiro and sales consultant Heather Doherty will offer design advice that matches a child's age, hobbies and personality. For part two, design consultant Susan Raineri and drapery workroom manager Joan Willis will present some of the best choices in fabrics and window treatment designs.
For other rooms of the house, join David Schmauss, heirloom rug department manager, and design consultant Elisa Katzeff at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 24 to learn how a rug can change a room in one simple purchase.

Museum event features auction, art sale, food
DOWNTOWN - Avant Garde, the Tampa Museum of Art's young professionals group, hosts a night of Art, Architecture and Audio from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at Rivergate Tower, 400 N Ashley Drive. The event features a silent auction and art sale, food and drinks. Artists include Shawn Arnow, David Quintal, Penelope Muse and Belle Sparrow and sculptors Douglass Taylor and Lijah Galas. Applications accepted for home repair loans
TAMPA - The city of Tampa is accepting applications for the Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Deferred Payment Loan Program, which helps residents in need of home repairs whose household income does not exceed 80 percent of the area's median income.
Payments on the loan are deferred with no interest as long as the applicant owns the home as a homestead property. The program is funded through the State Housing Initiative Partnership Program and HOME funds.

Architecture firm honored for design of mission
TAMPA - The Tampa Bay chapter of the American Institute of Architects presented 12 awards for design excellence at an awards reception last month. Of the 52 entries submitted, Alfonso Architects Inc. of Tampa took home the top honor - the H. Dean Rowe, FAIA Awards for Design Excellence.
Alfonso Architects received the award for its work on the Mission of St. Mary, a 10,000-square-foot open-air mission serving the Hispanic community west of the University of South Florida's Tampa campus. The firm designed the mission for free for the Diocese of St. Petersburg.
Web development firm a finalist for award
TAMPA - Bayshore Solutions, a Tampa Web development services and technology consulting firm, was named a finalist for the Greater Tampa Chamber's 25th annual Small Business of the Year Award. Bayshore Solutions, at 4465 W Gandy Blvd., Suite 750, was founded in 1996 and has more than 900 clients in 54 countries.
"We are honored to be selected for this prestigious award for the second year in a row," said Bayshore Solutions president and chief executive officer Kevin Hourigan in a press release. "This valued award recognizes the talent and hard work of our employees and their commitment to the success of our company."
The winner will be announced at the Small Business Awards dinner Sept. 16.
Volunteers sought to mentor children
TAMPA - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay seeks volunteers to mentor children in South Tampa, Brandon, Plant City, North Tampa and Lutz.
Options include a one-on-one program for a few hours a week or an after-school program for one hour per week.
An information session for potential volunteers will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 25 at Jimmie Keel Library, 2902 W Bearss Ave. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Basic requirements include a background check and volunteer interview.
