LUTZ - Friends will gather at Skipper's Smokehouse tonight to remember local artist and chef Regina Brady, who died in a motorcycle accident last year in St. Petersburg at the age of 39.

Hers was a life cut short far too soon, but her life touched many despite its brevity.

"She was an incredible artist and a wonderful, giving person," said Julie Sheid, her friend and an organizer of the benefit concert. "She was also a great chef who was generous with her time and energy."

The second annual Good Day Sunshine: A Regina Brady Benefit Concert and Art Auction starts at 8 p.m. at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road.

A $10 donation is requested.

Brady, who started her chef career at Skipper's, was also known in the area for her vegetarian cuisine. Eventually, she branched out to other Tampa Bay restaurants, including Mise en Place, Native Seafood, Nature's Harvest and Rolling Oats in St. Petersburg.

"She fed everyone in town," Sheid said. "If you ate out during that time, you would have eaten her cooking."

Friends and organizers of tonight's benefit want to erect a public art sculpture honoring Brady. Local artist Dan King has agreed to donate his time and talent to the project. Proceeds from the concert will help pay for materials.

"We would like to put it on the Hillsborough River, south of the dog track in Sulphur Springs," Sheid said. "She grew up in Sulphur Springs."

Music for tonight's concert will run the gamut from ballads to rock and will include singers Karen Zack, Eddie Parshall and John Hancock. Musical groups Juniper Trio, EOC and Crash Mitchell also will perform.

A silent auction will be held and artwork by various artists will be available for sale.
