DADE CITY - The Kumquat Festival, put on each year by the Greater Dade City Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the tiny citrus fruit, has been honored with an award by a state festival association.

The Kumquat Festival received the "Best Press Kit" award from the Florida Festivals and Events Association at its recent convention in Sarasota. Nearly 300 promotional items were judged by six marketing, advertising and public relations professionals. The Kumquat Festival, which draws about 30,000 visitors, won among events with budgets of $99,000 and less.

Phyllis Smith, the chamber's executive director, said the group has honored the Kumquat Festival in two other years, for its brochures and television ads.

"This will be our third time around that we have won recognition from them," she said. "It says that we work hard."

Next year's festival will be Jan. 28, with events and contests scheduled for the week leading up. Visit www.kumquatfestival.com
