CHECK IT OUT
BUCS-TITANS NFL PRESEASON, 8 TONIGHT, CH. 8: It's the first look at the 2005 Bucs. For those with expensive TVs, the Bucs should look a little different, a little sharper: WFLA Ch. 8 will carry all the preseason games in high definition.
PRESEASON FOOTBALL, NFL NETWORK, ALL WEEKEND: The NFL Network will show parts of 55 games in the next 25 days, covering some on tape delay and switching to others for 10 minutes or so during NFL Total Access: No Huddle, a live look-in show that whips around to NFL preseason games in progress (7 tonight, 7:30 Saturday).
87TH PGA CHAMPIONSHIP, TODAY-SUNDAY, TNT AND CH. 10: You can catch live coverage from Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J., from 1-7 p.m. today on TNT and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. CBS will take over from 2-7 p.m. Vijay Singh tries to defend against U.S. Open champ Michael Campbell and Masters and British Open champ Tiger Woods.
COSTAS NOW, 9 TONIGHT, HBO: Featuring an interview with seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, and Tony La Russa gets more of the genius treatment as Costas spent three days in St. Louis with him and broke down all three games the Cards played before and after.
LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL, 7 TONIGHT, ESPN: The Southeast Region final from little old Gulfport will be part of a doubleheader. Dave Ryan and Kyle Peterson call the action. Did you know: Former major-leaguer and current Countryside baseball coach Darnell Coles will team with Gary Miller in calling West Region games.
TOP FIVE REASONS YOU CAN'T BLAME. . ., 9 P.M. MONDAY, ESPN CLASSIC: Did you know you can't blame Bill Buckner for the Red Sox losing the 1986 World Series? Blame Roger Clemens, Calvin Schiraldi, Rich Gedman, Bob Stanley or Mookie Wilson's speed, but do not blame Buckner. Or you could. I still do.
WHAT'S GOING ON
Beginning in February, ESPN is producing a reality series called Knight School. Legendary basketball coach Bobby Knight gives 16 unsigned players a chance to be a walk-on.
Mario Lopez, or Slater to all you Saved By the Bell fans, will be the co-host of ESPN Hollywood, a 30-minute nightly sports and entertainment news program on ESPN2. It debuts at 6 p.m. Monday.
Former Cleveland Browns coach Butch Davis and former Fox broadcaster Brian Baldinger have been added to NFL Network's lineup for the season.
Auditions for ESPN's Stump the Schwab are skipping Tampa again, making Atlanta (10 a.m.-4 p.m., Aug. 27) the nearest chance for aspirants.
RATINGS
NBC earned a 6.2 (19-million viewers) for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard Sunday, matching the second-highest rating in the history of the event. Last year's race posted a 6.1.
THE LAST WORD
Following in the footsteps of Charles Barkley and Harold Reynolds, Slater really did a nice job turning his Bayside High wrestling career into a job at ESPN.
