Let's make a deal
Letters to the Editor
Published August 14, 2005
This is America, and if FSU wants to use the Seminole Indians as its mascot, and there are actually Seminole Indians, it sounds like a deal can be made to "license" the use of that image. Let the lawyers work out the details and let the fans continue to use the tomahawk chop. We took the lands from the American Indians two centuries ago, and recently, the American Indians have started to figure out how to take a little back. This seems like a no-brainer.

NNCAA is out of its element
I would like to strongly voice my opposition to the NCAA ban of all American Indian logos and team mascots. I have spoken with many Seminole, Miccosukee and Creek Indians and have never found one person not in agreement with the way the Seminole people are represented by FSU. The NCAA exists to provide a fair and level playing field for athletics, not jump into a political correctness tug of war.Patrick McCusker, Dunedin
