Aquatic center open for aerobics, laps, family time

SEMINOLE - The Seminole Family Aquatic Center, 9100 113th St. N, is offering water aerobics at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Cost is $3 a class. For those interested in swimming a few laps for exercise or taking a dip on a hot day, center hours are 7 to 10 a.m. for laps and exercise, noon to 4 p.m. for open swim, and 5 to 8 p.m. for family swim Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The aquatic center is also open from noon to 4 p.m. for open swim and 5 to 9 p.m. for family swim Tuesday and Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

A family pool party, "Seminole's Family Feuds," will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 17. Fee is $5 a family. Participants must have a recreation card or be a guest of a member. Families will compete with one another in glow-in-the-dark volleyball, water basketball, Scategories and water relay games and races. For information, call 397-6085.

The ninth annual Music in the Park series of Friday evening concerts will begin Sept. 9 with big band sounds by the Dan McMillion Jazz Orchestra. The free concerts are held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road. Future concerts include:

Sept. 16 - Tropical and classic rock by DeLei'ed Parrots.

Sept. 23 - Jazz/new age by Dagari.

Sept. 30 - Motown tribute by Uptown Review.

Oct. 7 - Oldies rock 'n' roll by Ocean Road Band.

Oct. 14 - Swing and jazz by Lounge Cat.

Bring blankets or chairs. Food and beverages will be available for sale. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed. For information, call 391-8345.

Free seminar, "Do You Run Your Business Or Does It Run You?," from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the chamber office, 8400 113th St. N. The chamber is seeking sponsors and players for its four-person scramble golf tournament Oct. 20 at Seminole Lake Country Club. Entries cost $100 per person, which covers greens fee, cart, dinner and a chance for prizes. For information, call 392-3245.

Aug. 24: 7:30 a.m., the Chamber Leads Group meets at St. Petersburg College, Seminole campus, Technology Learning Center building, Room 108.

Aug. 25: 4 to 6 p.m., annual open house at offices of state Rep. Leslie Waters, 5511 Park St. N. Guests are encouraged to bring infant care items to donate for the "Diaper Drop and Teddy Bear Boogie." The event will celebrate adoptions, encourage foster care, support infants in shelter care and recognize special babies at All Children's Hospital.

Pinellas County Sunstar Emergency Medical Services will offer free CPR classes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays on Aug. 20, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17 at Pinellas County Sunstar EMS, Room 132, 12490 Ulmerton Road. For information, call Doreen Schomp at 582-2068.
