A 40-year-old St. Petersburg man was arrested Tuesday night after authorities say he offered an undercover detective $500 to kill another man and gave ideas how to carry out the murder and discard the body.
John D. Newman Jr., 3035 66th Ave. N, No. 100, was being held Wednesday without bail in the county jail on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said it is seeking a second man in the scheme.
The men "both suggested methods for the murder and places and ways to dispose of the body," an arrest affidavit states. The men also provided a description of the victim and his daily activities which they "learned from their surveillance," according to the affidavit.
Few details of the scheme were released Wednesday, including how the men met the undercover detective. The sheriff's office said the plan stemmed from a "domestic relationship involving a female."
