Jacksonville area soldier, 20, killed in Iraq

Associated Press
Published August 23, 2005

JACKSONVILLE - A North Florida soldier died in Iraq last week when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee, the Defense Department said Monday.

Pfc. Timothy J. Seamans, 20, from Arlington near Jacksonville, and three other soldiers who died Thursday in Samarra, about 75 miles north of Baghdad, were assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division from Fort Stewart, Ga.

Seamans joined the Army last summer about two months after graduating from high school. He left for Iraq on Jan. 15.

Seamans' father David said Timothy lived through a missile attack while on patrol just two days before Army officers notified the family of his death. The missile destroyed his Humvee, but he was unhurt.

"When they come, you know," David Seamans said.
