Believe it or not, it's time to think about Halloween

SEMINOLE - Seminole's annual Community Halloween Trick or Treat event needs community and business sponsors.

This year's "Field of Screams" will be at the Holland G. Magnum Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St. N on Oct. 28 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Activities will include a Spook Zone interactive play area, Spooky Theater, a haunted trail and a costume contest.

Business and community groups will be given free space on the soccer fields to set up a Halloween-themed booth or table where they can pass out candy to children. Participants can promote their organizations or businesses by handing out coupons, business cards and fliers.

The trick or treat zone is limited to the first 30 businesses or groups to register. There is no charge to participate, other than the time, creativity and the candy distributed. Deadline to register is Sept. 30.

The ninth annual Music in the Park series of Friday evening concerts will begin Sept. 9 with the Big Band sound as interpreted by the Dan McMillion Jazz Orchestra. The free concerts are in Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road, from 7 to 9 p.m. Future concerts include:

Sept. 16 - Tropical and classic rock by DeLei'ed Parrots.

Sept. 23 - Jazz/New Age by Dagari.

Sept. 30 - Motown Tribute by Uptown Review.

Oct. 7 - Oldies rock 'n' roll by Ocean Road Band.

Oct. 14 - Swing and jazz by Lounge Cat.

Attendees should bring blankets or chairs to sit on. Food and beverages will be available for sale. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed. For information, call 391-8345.

A family pool party, "Seminole's Family Feuds," will be held at the Seminole Family Aquatic Center, 9100 113th St. N, on Sept. 17 from 7 to 10 p.m. The fee is $5 per family.

Participants must have a recreation card or be a guest of a member. Families will compete with each other in glow-in-the-dark volleyball, water basketball, Scategories and water relay games and races. For information, call 397-6085.

The Seminole Chamber of Commerce is seeking sponsors and players for its four-person scramble golf tournament on Oct. 20 at the Seminole Lake Country Club. Entries cost $100 per person, which covers greens fee, cart, dinner and a chance for prizes. For information, call 392-3245.

Today, 7:30 a.m., Chamber Leads Group at St. Petersburg College Seminole Campus, Technology Learning Center building, Room 108.

Thursday, 4 to 6 p.m., annual open house at the offices of state Rep. Leslie Waters, 5511 Park Street N. Guests are encouraged to bring infant care items to donate for the "Diaper Drop and Teddy Bear Boogie." The event will celebrate adoptions, encourage foster care, support infants in shelter care and recognize special babies at All Children's Hospital.
