Mickey's market to open second store

By Times Staff Writer

ST. PETERSBURG - Mickey Huguet, owner of the Mickey's Snell Isle Market, is opening a second store downtown in space at the Hampton Inn and Suites.

It will be called Mickey's Kork and Kleaver, said Huguet. She said JMC Communities' Lee Allen "talked her into" the second store. JMC built the Hampton Inn and Suites at 80 Beach Drive NE. It opened in January 2003 and has retail space on the ground level.

Huguet soon will be in the market for another place on Snell Isle because developers have decided to tear down Snell Isle Plaza and put up a condominium building that will have commercial shops. She will have one of those shops but will have to relocate during construction. She said Tuesday the downtown store is not big enough to be a full temporary market.

When the downtown store opens, probably Oct. 15, it will offer gourmet meat, a deli and imported cheese, wine and beer. It won't have as many other groceries as the Snell Isle market does.
