Transit committee has several openings

The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority has several openings on its Transit Advisory Committee. This group meets once a month at its headquarters at 14840 49th St. in Clearwater.

The committee of transit users and interested citizens provide input to the PSTA board of directors and staff regarding transit service, fares and infrastructure improvements.

Such input is intended to increase ridership and improve service for passengers. To apply, call 533-4301.

Earhart fellowships available for women

The Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowships are offered annually to women for graduate study in aerospace-related science and aerospace-related engineering. Revised evacuation map on county's Web site

Pinellas County Emergency Management officials have completed revisions on the evacuation level map and posted the revised map on the county Web site. Marine Corps League wants you as a member

The Marine Corps League, a voluntary veterans organization of former Marines and Navy Corpsmen, wants to increase its membership.

The league serves Brandon, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Tampa and the North Suncoast through outreach programs such as Toys for Tots, supports returning troops and the VA, and provides honor guards for veterans who have died.

Italian-American women meet on third Tuesday

The Italian-American Women of Today - LIADO will hold a general membership meeting at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at Our Lady of Lourdes Community Center, 750 San Salvador Drive, Dunedin.

Membership is open to women of any age who have Italian ancestry and are interested in supporting Italian culture and heritage.

Retired greyhounds ready for adoption to be at store

The Bay Area Greyhound Adoptions, a volunteer organization that finds adoptive homes for retired racing greyhounds, will be showing greyhounds at the Clearwater PetsMart at Clearwater Mall, 2625 Gulf-to-Bay, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the second and fourth Saturday of each month.

Help can be as simple as a visit or trip to the store

Directions for Mental Health is looking for volunteers to help elderly adults in mid to upper Pinellas County. Volunteers will visit seniors, run errands and help with trips to the grocery store. Call Dolores Brigati at 524-4464, ext. 1354.

Dunedin flotilla presenting classes on boat safety

The Dunedin flotilla is presenting boat safety and seamanship programs. Classes run through November. Most insurance companies will give a discount on boat insurance after presenting a certificate of completion. Call 772-0021.

You can shape up with water fitness

Clearwater Parks and Recreation present aquacise through October. This instructor-led water fitness class emphasizes increasing endurance. Classes are at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Clearwater Beach Family Aquatic Center, 51 Bay Esplanade, Clearwater.

Cost is $3 with Clearwater recreation card and $3.75 without. Call 462-6020.

HEP Thrift Store selling furniture, clothes, jewelry

The HEP Thrift Store, 1212 N Betty Lane, Clearwater, has vintage pieces, used furniture, brand name clothing, jewelry and knickknacks. The thrift store is part of the Homeless Emergency Project, a nonprofit organization that provides housing and supportive services for homeless individuals and families. Italian-American Club offers dinner dances

CLEARWATER - The Italian-American Club of Greater Clearwater, 200 McMullen-Booth Road, has a pasta dinner and dancing every Tuesday. Dinner at the club begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dancing until 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for members and $8 for nonmembers.

The club puts on dinner-dances from 5:30 to 11 p.m. every other Saturday. Cost is $12 for members, $15 for nonmembers. The club is now accepting new members.

Worknet Pinellas to help place, train veterans

Worknet Pinellas will help place and train military veterans. All career fields are eligible, and training is done by the employer on site. This program is designed to give assistance in training funds as well as provide support in getting needed uniforms, tools and supplies for the job.
