Guardsmen in Plant City prepare for deployment

By Times Staff Writer
Published August 25, 2005

PLANT CITY - About 150 Florida National Guard soldiers will mobilize in Plant City beginning Friday for a yearlong deployment overseas.

The National Guard said the soldiers would be deployed on a military police mission "in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom" but did not specifically say they would be sent to Iraq.

Most of the soldiers are members of the 3rd Battalion of the 116th Field Artillery Regiment. They will be sent soon for additional training in Fort Dix, N.J., before going overseas.

Another 200 soldiers from the 3rd Battalion already have shipped out to Fort Dix.
