Hillsborough man accused of shooting at car on highway

TAMPA - Florida Highway Patrol troopers on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old Plant City man they claim fired a handgun out the window of his pickup truck during a flash of road rage.

Officials said Carl Delgado had been driving aggressively and erratically west on Interstate 4, then north on Interstate 275, on Wednesday morning.

FHP spokesman Larry Coggins said a couple driving in a nearby Honda caught up to Delgado, got his license plate number and began to call authorities.

"He must have seen then," Coggins said.

Delgado slid open the back window of the truck and fired one shot from a handgun, according to reports. The bullet struck the tailgate of the truck, and Delgado sped away, Coggins said.

Delgado faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; shooting at, into or within a vehicle; and direct discharge of a firearm from a vehicle.

State records show no prior arrests for Delgado in Florida.

He remained in a Hillsborough County jail Wednesday evening in lieu of $10,500 bail.
