Dunedin official to run for mayor

By Times Staff Writer

DUNEDIN - Commissioner Bob Hackworth officially announced Wednesday night that he is running for mayor in the March election.

The small-business owner, who is in his second term of office, will challenge Mayor John Doglione, who is seeking his second term. Hackworth, 50, said early last month that he planned to challenge Doglione. So far, no one else has announced his or her candidacy for the office. Vice Mayor Julie Scales and Commissioner Dave Eggers are seeking re-election, and Ron Barnette, a retired philosophy professor, plans to run for Hackworth's seat. Hackworth made his announcement for candidacy at La Maison Gourmet on Main Street before a group of about 100 people. Qualifying for the March election begins Dec. 19 and ends at noon Jan. 13. Election day is March 14.
